Rouen was for a long time, the kingdom of France’s second city, and it has preserved an important heritage from the past.
Victor Hugo called it “the city of a thousand steeples”. It was here that Monet painted his celebrated pictures of the cathedral which are illuminated every year by a son et lumière show.
Rouen is still today a great city of culture, famed for its opera and theatres. With an eye to looking after the environment, the centre of the city is open only to those on foot or bicycle, and Rouen is opening up new green spaces suitable for families. A new economic centre is developing along the banks of the Seine.
Rouen awaits you…
